How to Strap a Shoulder with Kinesiology Tape

How to Strap a Shoulder with Tape for Support

Do you ever feel a sharp pain when reaching something, lifting weights, or training for your sport? Shoulder pain can be frustrating. If left untreated, it can limit your mobility, affect your sports training and performance, and negatively impact your daily activities. Luckily, shoulder kinesiology tape is an excellent solution to your problem.

Kinesiology tape isn’t just an ordinary tape. It’s a thin, flexible, and elastic strip applied to your shoulder. It lifts the skin, promoting blood flow, reducing inflammation, and improving muscle function.

Moreover, kinesiology tape isn’t limited to shoulder injuries. And it’s not only limited to athletes but also beneficial for the general population. You can apply it to your ankles, knees, and other body parts. For instance, ankle strapping can stabilise your ankle joint, while knee strapping can help support your knee joint.

Now, there are quite a few shoulder strapping techniques or options. The one we’re about to share with you is the most basic and commonly used.

How to Tape a Shoulder for Support

Step 1

Start by thoroughly cleaning and preparing your affected shoulder. Ensure it is dry to guarantee the tape sticks properly.

Step 2

Since most kinesiology tapes, like the MedTAC peppermint kinesiology tapes, aren’t pre-cut, you can cut them to your desired length. Prepare three strips that are 5 to 10 inches in length.

Step 3

Identify your deltoid outline. Take the first strip and place it around 4 cm from the tip, right at the deltoid insertion point, without tension. Then, apply around 25% tension and stretch the tape on one side of the contour of the deltoid.

Step 4

Take the second strip and place 4 cm from the tip beside the first tape. Repeat the same process on the opposite contour of your deltoid. Ensure that both ends of the tape meet above your shoulder or right below your neck.

Step 5

For the third strip, place it in front of the shoulder. Apply around 25% tension while crossing it right above the two strips. Then, let it settle at the back of your shoulder.

Step 6

Finally, gently rub the kinesiology tapes to activate the adhesive. Smooth them out to eliminate any wrinkles.

Following these steps will ensure that you effectively strap your shoulder. Kinesiology tapes will provide the support and stability needed to relieve shoulder pain. This, combined with the unique cooling effects of the MedTAC peppermint kinesiology tape, can help you get back to your daily activities or training with less pain or discomfort.

Take note that you can also use kinesiology tape in other areas, such as the knee or ankle. Be sure to check out our other blogs on strapping a rolled ankle and ways to strap a knee.

So, whether you’re dealing with a shoulder injury or other physical injuries, kinesiology tape is a helpful tool in relieving pain and the overall recovery process. And by following the proper techniques and using the right products, you can ensure that kinesiology tape will provide the support and relief you need.
