Description

Peppermint-Infused Synthetic Kinesiology Tape is a MedTAC’s innovation that enhances synthetic K tape with peppermint to provide a longer-lasting cooling effect.

Peppermint oil has several mechanisms of action, including smooth muscle relaxation (via calcium channel blockade or direct enteric nervous system effects), anti-microbial effects, and anti-inflammatory activity. Studies demonstrate that peppermint oil (menthol) is anti-inflammatory (Chumpitazi P, Kearns G, and Shulman RJ, 2018).

Menthol, the natural cooling product of peppermint, is widely used in medicinal preparations to relieve acute and inflammatory pain in sports injuries, arthritis, and other painful conditions. Menthol induces the cooling sensation by activating TRPM8, an ion channel in cold-sensitive peripheral sensory neurons. Recent studies identified additional targets of menthol, including the irritant receptor TRPA1, voltage-gated ion channels, and neurotransmitter receptors (Liu et al., 2013).

Directions for the Application of Kinesiology Tape

• Ensure the skin underneath is clean, dry, and oil-free before applying the tape.
• Apply K tape directly to the affected area, not over clothing or under a wrap.
• Determine the length required for the application before cutting the tape.
• Make sure the edges are well-rounded on the ends before its application, which will help it stick better and avoid getting caught on the ends.
• Do not stretch the starting and ending points of the tape.
• After applying the tape, rub it against your skin to activate the adhesive and improve the sticking effect.
